A very promising performance against one of the fancied sides for promotion. Lancing deserved at least a point if not all 3. Showed endeavour and determination throughout but got punished by 2 sloppy pieces of defending.
Lancing took the lead after some early pressure from Sidley. A good sweeping move from Joe Howard and Lee Garnham created the opportunity for Rob Partridge to go round the keeper and find the back of the net. Then Lancing took control of the game until letting Sidley back in with a great cross from their right wing into the edge of the six yard box where it was met with a good header giving Luke Green no chance. Lancing failed to heed the warnings of earlier crosses from the same side. Half time 1-1.
The second half started much as the first with Sidley slightly on top and they took the lead with a free header from a corner early in the half. Lee Garnham holding his hand up for not going with the Sidley centre half. After the set back Lancing mounted untold pressure on the Sidley defence but could not get the goal they deserved. Darren Boswell went through but snatched his shot to early. Mat Ansell came on for his first start of the season and had two good opportunities. Luke Mighall pulled his shot after being set up by James Hannah.
A disappointing result but a pleasing performance.
