The first away defeat for 6 games. Not one of Lancing's better performances against Sidley who completed the double over us.
Sidley had by far the most chances and really should have been further ahead than the 1-0 lead at half time.
The only goal was scored from about 30 yards that caught Paul Best out in the Lancing goal.
Lancing had a great chance of equalising following good work by Dan Griffin winning the ball in the air, it fell to Michael Sims who looked certain to score but it got caught under his feet and somehow the ball was scrambled away. Then Sidley got a penalty that was put high and wide a great let off that hopefully Lancing could capitalise on.
The second half and again Sidley made all the running with Lancing not getting into the game. The Sidley number 11 was by far the best player on the pitch and was causing lots of problems for the back four. A switch of formation to 5-3-2 to try and get back in the game soon came unstuck when Sidley got their 2nd. Following a strong run down their right wing, Shaun Skipper and Chris Gander couldn't stop or clear the cross and Agutter got his 2nd goal to put Sidley well in control.
Danny Clayton was introduced for the last 25 minutes, his first game back in the first team since injury and his intoruction seemed to give Lancing a bit of impetus. All of a sudden they woke up and decided to try and get into the game.
Following good work by Rob Partridge a good cross was headed home by Griffin and it was game on. Lancing had a couple of efforts to try and get the equaliser, the best following good set up play by Michael Sims found Shaun Skipper but his effort was tame and easily saved by the Sidley keeper.
At the end of the game Lancing must reflect on the scoreline and realise they could have got something from the game, but it wouldn't have been deserved, Sidley missing many chances and Lancing only playing for the last 20 minutes. Final score Sidley United 2 v Lancing 1
