Lancing made the trip out to Midhurst on Saturday and it seemed that the travelling and the sun had had a bad effect on them.
After only a couple of minutes Simon Hind lobbed Luke Green with a spectacular volley from fully 30 yards. A superb finish in his own net. What a start.
Lancing appeared to be shell shocked and it took a while for the team to get going. Quite a few unforced errors and general slackness not a normal part of the sides game in recent fixtures. Eventually Lancing equalised with a rare Darren Boswell header inside the 6 yard box. It was the first bit of decent creativity by Lancing stringing 4/5 passes together and a great cross by James Hannah and Bozzy was on the end of it. Not the best 45 minutes from Lancing and 1-1 at half time.
The second half started better and Lancing were on the attack for most of the half. But would the goals come ? Eventually after a change of formation and tactics by the boss and Dan Griffin got on the end of a cross from Darren Boswell and Lancing took the lead 2-1. From then on it was a case of keeping the ball and being sensible. Midhurst stretched the Lancing defence a couple of times but nothing major to worry about.
Following a corner between Rob Partridge and Tobi Hutchinson, Tobi got his first league goal for the club. A sweet strike with his left foot beating the keeper at the near post, 3-1. A few minutes later Rob Partridge burst into the box and lifted it over the keeper as he dived at his feet, a good finish, 4-1. Job done, 3 points and back home.
A great shame for the Midhurst keeper who got a bad shoulder injury following a collision with his centre half and Matt Ansell. He was leaving for hospital in a bad way at ther finish of the game. He had pulled off 3-4 superb saves and we wish him all the best.
