It was an uneventful first half from Lancing's point of view. Going behind to a Storrington break away on around the half hour mark. This Division 2 cup encounter against our rivals just north of the downs on a hard bumpy pitch was never going to be a classic. A close hard working team effort was required. Storrington probably desreved their first half lead 1-0.
The second half was fairly much the same start.
Except Storrington will probably kick themselves for a couple of missed chances early on when they had a chance to extend their lead.
Instead Lancing broke away and scored in similar circumstances to the Storrington goal when the prolific Rob Partridge slid the ball past the advancing keeper. 1-1 and all to play for.
The second goal was after the best move of the match involving some good interchanging passes and some very nimble footwoork from Dan Griffin before he was hauled down when very well positioned to score. The ref had no hesitation in pointing to the spot. No other retribution for the very lucky defender.
Rob Partridge stroked home the penalty sending the keeper the wrong way.
As mentioned early Storrington were now left to reflect on their missed chances and possibly still feel they should have got something from the game. But Lancing also had Dan Griffin's header pushed onto the bar, a shot cleared of the line and a Michael Sims piledriver from 30 yards that flew back off the post with the keeper well beaten.
In games that are so close both sides will think they should have won but it is all about taking your chances and Rob Partridge took his on the day and Lancing progress into the next round. Away to Southwick or Loxwood.
