One of the age old sayings " it was a game of 2 halves". Never been more apt.
Lancing playing away against a very strong side, sitting 3rd in the table with some noticeable results and performances throughout the season. It was always going to be a hard ask.
The first half and Lancing dominated. Playing some very good flowing football. All over the park looking comfortable and assured.
Going very close on numerous occasions. Lee Garnham having a great volley pushed onto the bar. Darren Boswell hitting the bar. Danny Clayton twice creating panic in the box without the ball falling to a Lancing player.
It was great to watch, with Nick Green pulling the strings. Unfortuneately they couldn't get the goal they deserved.
Loxwood also hit the bar from a corner but I am sure they would have agreed that Lancing were the better side for the first 45 minutes.
The second half, and Loxwood went more direct and pushed 3 up front. They wrestled the initiative away from Lancing. Deservedly, on the run of play at the time, taking the lead. A big punt by the Loxwood keeper caught out the Lancing defence and after clearing the initial shot off the line the rebound was swept home for a 1-0 lead.
Lancing then had to look for the equaliser and against a very strong defence, well marshalled by French at the heart of the back four, it was not to be.
Lancing will play a lot worse and win. They had a lot of the ball without carving out the killer pass or chance. Loxwood were a very solid, well organised side, that will be in the shake up at the end of the season. Lancing are not far behind and know what they need to do to close the gap.
We wish Loxwood all the best in the Semi Final against Rye or Seaford.
