Lancing 4
Lee Garnham (1)
Darren Annis (1)
Shaheen Sadough (1)
Dan Turner (1)
Littlehampton Town 3

Lancing won the game 4-3 and went top of the league. A close game ? Not really. Lancing dominated the game until the last 2 minutes.

Lancing started bright moving the ball around well and taking the game to Littlehampton. Chance after chance was spurned until Garnham gave them the lead with a header following a good cross by Joseph. 1-0

Again Lancing seemed to take their foot off the pedal and allowed Littlehampton back into the game whan a long diagonal ball was not dealt with and Evans was lobbed from the edge of the area. 1-1. The first goal Lancing had conceded since the 2nd half equaliser in the first game of the season against Bexhill.

It appeared to galvanise Lancing into action. As though they had been hurt by the goal. Lancing hit back straight away when Dan Turner got the ball out wide cut in from the left and unleashed an unstopable shot into the top corner of the goal from 25 yards. 2-1.
Soon to become 3-1 when another effort from Annis hit the far post and Shaz Sadough was there to poke home the rebound.

Lancing were playing wonderful flowing football and taking Littlehampton apart at will. Garnham burst into the box and crashed his effort against the bar. Before Darren Annis got his reward with a great dipping strike from 20 yards to make it 4-1 and half time.

Could Lancing keep the tempo up ? The game appeared won. Would Littlehampton collapse ?

Well Lancing really should have scored a lot more.
Hibberd struck the post from a free kick, then went close across the goal. Garnham spurned enough chances to get his hat trick. Dan McLoughlin had a great chane to open his account. Wayne Joseph, Gareth Green and Dan Turner all had opportunities. But without adding to the Lancing total.

Changes were made by the Manager at 4-1.

Two minutes to go Littlehampton grabbed a second, following a mix up at a Lancing throw in. Disappointing to concede another. 4 -2.
But worse was to follow. Dave Sharman deciding to try and control a through ball rather then heading clear and some how the ball got crossed for the smallest player on the pitch to head home at the far post to make it 4-3.
The ref allowed the game to be kicked off before blowing the time on the entertaining game.

The score line flattered Littlehampton if it had been 8-1 with 5 minutes to go they wouldn't have had grounds to complain. But that is football. Littlehampton never gave in, their management and support would not allow it. Credit to John Suter. They battled hard to the end and will probably have gone home thinking what if.

Lancing got the deserved 3 points and keep their unbeaten run going and take over at the top of the league. The first time in a number of years. But it is only August, a long hard season ahead, don't get carried away, very encouraging and credit to all the players and management team involved. Hopefully a season to look forward too.

A break this Saturday from the league as we entertain Slough Town in the FA Cup. You just never know, what a great test.
