Lancers finish runners-up in Club of the Year category!

By Jack Taylor

The awards were held on Friday 23rd November, hosted by Active Sussex, at the Grand Hotel, Brighton.

The club was really pleased to be shortlisted in the “club of the year” category at the Sussex Sports Awards at the Grand Hotel last Friday. Fantastic recognition for the club for the work it has done in the last 6 months that includes:-

  • Merging with Lancing Youth FC
  • Launching a Ladies team
  • Launching two U18s teams
  • Raising over £1,000 for local mental health charities
  • Becoming a Charter Community Club

In addition the club has just announced a disability team for next season with training starting in the new year along with the launch of SSE Wildcats in April which encourages girls of 5-11 to attend training sessions.

All fantastic stuff but we also had a number of our volunteers nominated for the great work they do for the club and the community and we would like to take this chance to recognise them:-

  1. Terry Cartwright – Terry was recently recognised as “Supporter of the Year” by the club and was nominated for the support he has given to the club of the last decades. Terry is a Vice President of the club in recognition of this.
  2. James Taylor - James has taken on an active role coaching the U18s and runs the County U18s on a Sunday match day. James is also coach development officer for the youth side of the club and also trains the u7s / U8s.
  3. Tony Wheels – Tony has also been a stalwart of the club for decades and helps support the first team and youth teams with kit, match day support and anything else he feels is needed.
  4. Daniel Fuller-Smith – New to the club at the start of this year, Daniel has taken on the administration of the club in his role as Club Secretary and helped with merging the Seniors and the Youth and then applying for the FA Charter status. Daniel also is responsible for getting the U18s up and running this season and we are already building a strong youth section with several U18s already breaking into the U23s and 1st team.

10 of our club members were in attendance at the awards night, which saw Burgess Hill Cricket Club take home the award. Both of our fellow shortlisted clubs have also down fantastic work in their communities, uniting people from all background in the world of sport.

Thank-you for all of your support of Lancing FC in the vote, and we look forward to continuing our hard-work at the heart of Lancing!
