Pulling's side lose 5-3 at Eastbourne Town
By Jack Taylor
The Lancers battled well away from home, but were unable to win any points with 10-men for most of the game.
The first team lost 5-3 away at Eastbourne Town today, as Mark Pulling led his team out for the first time in his official role of first team manager after Ash Bailey's resignation last week.
Following last night's Under-23s comeback to beat Selsey U23s 3-2 at Culver Road, excitement was building to see what the first team could offer, on what turned out to be a cold, wet afternoon at the Saffrons ground.
The Lancers got off to a disappointing start in the first-half, as Noah Dudok van Heel was sent off by the referee, for a mistimed challenge, in what were difficult playing conditions; it was an unfortunate start for our Under-18 youth player who was given a chance in the first team today.
Soon after on 16 minutes, Perry gave our hosts the lead, as he slotted past Tyler D'Cruz, who was unable to deny the striker. The Lancers continued battling in wet conditions though, and number 11, Lucas Tredrea, netted with just a minute until half-time, to take Lancing level!
Half-time: Eastbourne Town 1 - 1 Lancing
Both teams came out strong in the second-half, but it was Eastbourne who re-acquired their lead, as Perry scored his second of the match on 53 minutes, after being unable to beat D'Cruz for numerous attempts before. Perry completed his hatrick after 64 minutes, followed by Capon and Strevett both also adding to the scoreline, in a matter of 15 minutes.
After a period lacking in chances, Langford gave the Yellows hope as he closed the lead on 80 minutes, assisted by Lansdale, and scored again just 5 minutes later, making it 5-3. The Lancers were back on top, but it was too late, as the damage had been done, and there was not enough time to grab a further two goals.
Full-time: Eastbourne Town 5 - 3 Lancing
Player of the match: Jack Langford
Well done to the Yellows for showing character to pull 2 goals back late on in the second-half, but we go again on Tuesday where we host Broadbridge Heath at Culver Road, 7:45pm kick-off.
