Lancing 0 - 1 Chichester City

The Lancers lost 1-0 at home to Chichester on Saturday, as we celebrated International Women's Day at Culver Road.

Lancing 0 - 1 Chichester City

A daunting task faced Lancing as they hosted table topping Chichester City. Matt Evans was back in goal but Josh Clayman was unavailable and, following a change of management at Three Bridges, Jonathan Lansdale has rejoined his former club.

This is a blow to Lancing as Jon has been a vital presence in midfield and he will be sorely missed. Chichester had an early opportunity to test Matt when a shirt pull led to a free kick which was wasted. It was Lancing's turn to pose a threat as the Chichester keeper was twice forced to race from his line to clear from Michael Death. Chichester were moving the ball around quickly and Lancing were having to work hard at closing down and needed to maintain maximum concentration as Chichester enjoyed most of the possession. Despite their dominance Lancing defended resolutely and Matt Evans was only tested on a couple of occasions.Just before half time ,he got down to save well at the foot of his right upright.

The second half showed Chichester continuing to mount dangerous attacks but Lancing's back four of Pittock, Hendy, Bygraves and Di Arienzo held firm. Stepthen Jackson came on for Louis Pittock and William Saint and Daniel Momah replaced Michael Death and Noah Dudok van Heel.

Chichester managed to get in front with a break down their left and with the ball being pulled back from the byline it was prodded home at the near upright. Chichester continued to look dangerous breaking forward at pace but Lancing were in defiant mood and succeeded in restricting the visitors to a single goal. No mean achievement considering that Chichester have scored 80 league goals this season.

It was a great all round team effort from Michael Death up front battling against two or three defenders to try and hold the ball up and the midfield chasing and harrying and trying to win possession. No points to show for all their hard work but some satisfaction at containing a good Chichester team.

Difficult to choose a man of the match in an all round team display but Alex Bygraves and Liam Hendy were solid throughout.
