The bar will be decorated, along with posters in the toilets, changing rooms, hospitality suite, office and turnstiles. Before the match, half-time, or full-time, everybody should be able to talk about mental health at football.
Before our matches, for anyone wishing to discuss mental health, hospitality will be provided in our Peter Bentley suite.
Here is this Saturday's Culver Chatter, as featured in our Matchday programme- grab yours on the day for just £1 on the gate!
Thank you to Saturday's match ball sponsor, club legend, John Sharman.
Good afternoon and a very warm welcome to Culver Road for this afternoon's Macron Southern Combination Premier League fixture, against today’s visitors, neighbours and very good friends, Shoreham FC. We welcome the players, officials and supporters here today and wish you an enjoyable stay with us for the game, including a safe journey home. We also extend our welcome to today’s Match Officials: Ciaran Fidler in the centre today, assisted by Steven Baker and Alex Barron.
We would also like to welcome today's matchball sponsor, John Sharman. Im sure all here today know of John, now one of our Vice Presidents after giving so much to our club and to football in general. As a young Lancing supporter I watched John as a player and now of course as a not so young Lancing supporter I watch his son David play. Between them they are pushing 700 appearances for our club, wow!! John was also manager of Lancing FC over the last couple of seasons and gained a very credible 10th position on both outings. He is very much hoping to have success in Veterens football later on this season, isnt that right John?! Enjoy today John and you will always hold great respect from everyone associated at Lancing FC.
Our last home game against Eastbourne Town ended with two injury time goals which cruelly denied us a hard fought point, 3-1 the final score. Our trip to East Preston saw us come away with a 2-2 draw, a brace from Matt Daniel. A game where we were unlucky not to have won but coming from a goal down twice prehaps it was overall a fair result.
2-2 was the score of the league game at Shoreham earlier in the season, our opponents coming from 2 goals down to share the spoils. Always a pleasure to welcome Shoreham FC, my time as a chairman with Worthing United and now Lancing has seen many good footballing encounters and have had plenty of support from our neighbours too especially around the time of the Shoreham Airshow tradegy, will always remember your support and generousity you offered through a very difficult period for my both myself and the club.
Football is a wonderful sport, not just for the players but for the supporters. On a personal note football helped me through a difficult period of my life which included the loss of the two lads at the Airshow. As a club we have an ongoing campaign called 'You're not alone' and this weekend we are taking part in a nationwide campaign called 'Time to talk'. Mental health affects one in four of us, yet we are still afraid to talk about it. Time to Talk encourages everyone to talk about mental health. I struggled to do so at first but soon realised it really does help. Having conversations about mental health helps breakdown steteotypes, improve relationships, aid recovery and take the stigma out of something that affects us all. There are lots of different ways to have a conversation about mental health and you dont have to be an expert to talk about it. Our friends from Mind are here today, there are leaflets to take away or if you would like a chat over a cuppa pop a long to the Peter Bentley Suite in the South East corner of the ground.
Our ladies are at home tomorrow, 2pm ko, for a top of the table clash. Free entry to the game and again if you fancy a chat pop down before the game.
Look out for our Sponsor's Day, Family Day and International Women's Day over the next couple of months too.
Come on you Lancers!!
Enjoy the game today and I look forward to catching up with you all soon.
